Towed Vehicles

An administrative towing Impound Fee of $500 may be assessed for certain violations under the Aurora municipal code section 29-48, or as otherwise specified in the Illinois Complied Statutes.

All towing and storage charges are the responsibility of the owner and/or violator. Impound fees may be paid 24 hours a day, 7 days a week at the Aurora Police Department Booking (Jail) located at the west end of 1200 E. Indian Trail Rd. (Nearest the court, opposite the front desk area). Please bring the yellow copy of the form labeled Notice of Vehicle Seizure & Impoundment to the booking division, along with $500.00 USC (cash only) to secure the release of an impounded vehicle.

All applicable towing and storage fees will be paid separate from the impound fee, directly to the towing company at the time of vehicle release. The Aurora Police Department contracts with 11 individual companies for towing services. These companies hold regular business hours of 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday (Effective 7/1/24).

For more information contact Motor Vehicle Parking, City of Aurora, 44 E. Downer Place, Aurora Illinois, phone (630) 256-3580, Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

How to Contest an Impound

A notice of PLEA FILING forms will be mailed within 10 days after the seizure to the OWNER of the vehicle, at his or her last known address. The notice of PLEA FILING forms will request the vehicle OWNER to enter a plea of GUILTY or NOT GUILTY, on the date and time listed on the notice of PLEA FILING form, or in writing prior to the listed date and time. If pleading GUILTY the case will be disposed of at that time. If pleading NOT GUILTY the FINAL HEARING date is scheduled within 45 days from the date of seizure. The date and time of the FINAL HEARING is listed on the notice of PLEA FILING forms. Failure to appear at the plea filing, submit the plea filing in writing, or appear at the final hearing will result in a finding of GUILTY unless a notice, in writing, is received prior to the plea filing/final hearing date and time.

Any vehicle not claimed within 30 days from date of disposition may be disposed of as an unclaimed vehicle, as provided by ordinance. This action will not satisfy any amount due to the City of Aurora for the fine assessed.
