LGBTQ+ Liason
The Aurora Police Department’s LGBTQ+ Liaison program is responsible for establishing, maintaining, strengthening, and enhancing the relationship between the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, and Questioning/Queer community.
The department’s LGBTQ+ Liaison actively works to strengthen the relationship between the LGBTQ+ community and the Aurora Police Department by creating mutual trust and confidence in the police through community involvement, departmental education, and the provision of fair and professional policing services.
The LGBTQ+ Liaison presents to LGBT groups, PFLAG, community groups and educational institutions in the Aurora area to help continue building the relationship between the police and the LGBTQ+ community. The LGBTQ+ Liaison also presents to law enforcement classes at Waubonsee Community College and Aurora University to educate law enforcement officers about the importance of building relationships in the LGBTQ+ community. If you’re interested in connecting with LGBTQ+ Liaison, please send an email.
APD’s LGBTQ+ Liaison program is currently overseen by Officer Lee Catavu. He began the LGBTQ+ Liaison program in 2010 and has continued to build the department’s outreach and education efforts.
The Aurora Police Department is proud to have a number of LGBTQ+ employees and celebrates them as part of our diverse culture at the Aurora Police Department. Are you interested in joining the team at the Aurora Police Department? Check out our employment opportunities here.
