Are you between the ages of 17- and 20-years-old and interested in a career as a firefighter? Become an Aurora Fire Cadet!

The Aurora Fire Cadet program is a great opportunity for young adults interested in Fire and EMS. This position will help in determining if a career in the fire service is a good fit for you.

Aurora Fire Cadets will perform routine station assignments to obtain a working knowledge of fire functions. Other duties include assisting with administrative tasks, station cleaning and maintenance, answering and directing phone calls and walk-in visitors, assisting with Fire Station tours, and participating in ride-alongs on emergency vehicles as an observer.

Eligibility Requirements for Fire Cadet

  • Must be between 17 to 20 years of age; Anyone 21 years of age or older will not qualify
  • Must have attained at least senior class standing in high school on the date of test
  • Must have graduated from an accredited high school, attained a GED, or a Home School certification through the Regional
  • Superintendent of Schools at time of hire
  • Must have a minimum high school grade point average of 2.0 on a scale of 4.0 or equivalent (Copy of unofficial high school/GED/home school transcript required to be uploaded at time of application)
  • Valid State of Illinois Class D driver’s license (Copy required to be uploaded at time of application)
  • Be a United States citizen at time of hire
  • Must be able to successfully pass a polygraph, psychological exam, interview, background check, physical examination, and drug screen
  • Must be able to work up to 20 hours per week between 8 am – 4 pm, Monday – Friday
