About The EMA

The City of Aurora Emergency Management Agency develops the comprehensive and integrated framework to coordinate actions and available resources to effectively and efficiently support the management of emergencies, disasters, or crises and aids in whole community resiliency to reduce life, property, and environmental vulnerabilities.

Whole Community Approach

Emergency management is the discipline of dealing with and avoiding risks, particularly those that have catastrophic consequences for communities. It is the dynamic process of preparing for, mitigating, responding to and recovering from an emergency.  Planning, though critical, is not the only component. Training, conducting drills, testing equipment and coordinating activities with the whole community are our daily functions. Effective emergency management relies on the integration of emergency plans at all levels of government and non-government, including individuals and community organizations.

Whole Community is a means by which residents, emergency management agencies, organizational and community leaders, and government officials can collectively understand and assess the needs of the City of Aurora and determine the best ways to organize and strengthen our assets, capacities, and interests.  By doing so, a more effective pat to security and resiliency is built.
