Deputy Chief Steve Stemmet

Deputy Chief Steve Stemmet began his law enforcement career with the Montgomery Police Department before joining the Aurora Police Department in 1999. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2014 and became a Lieutenant in 2018. During his time as Lieutenant, he served in several vital capacities, including Special Operations Group Lieutenant, Night Watch Commander, Area Two Afternoon Shift Lieutenant, and Special Response Team Lieutenant. He was also a contributing member of the Employee Review Board. In 2021, he was promoted to Commander, where he led both the Support Services Bureau and later the Investigative Services Bureau, demonstrating adaptability and mission-driven leadership.

Upon stepping into the role of Deputy Chief in 2025, he continues to lead with a focus on operational effectiveness, investigative integrity, and service to both the organization and the community.
