Court Detention Technician

The application process for the Court Detention Technician eligibility list is currently closed.

For full consideration, you must have submitted an employment application for this position and must schedule and pass the exam (REACT Test) by 11:59 P.M. on June 2, 2026.

Candidates will be notified via email of their pass/fail status on June 5, 2026.

*There is a non-refundable base fee of $41 for the exam and an additional cost for each department where you indicate you want to apply. Payments are made electronically using a credit card.

Orientation - July 9, 2026: Candidates who have successfully submitted their application and received a passing score on their exam will be notified and given more details regarding the orientation during the week of June 22.

Candidates will be scheduled for the physical agility test at the orientation. 

There will be two (2) dates offered to attend and complete the physical agility test* (P.O.W.E.R Test):

  • July 21, 9:00 PM
  • July 23, 4:00 PM

The physical agility test* is administered to measure physical capabilities that consist of a sit and reach test, 1 minute sit-up test, 1 repetition maximum bench press, and 1.5 mile run.

Candidate must be able to demonstrate the following capabilities:

Male:

  • Reach 10.5 inches on the sit and reach
  • 19 sit-ups in a minute
  • Bench press 63% of body weight
  • Run 1.5 miles in 16 min: 58 sec.

Female:

  • Reach 14.8 inches on the sit and reach
  • 10 sit-ups in a minute
  • Bench press 39% of body weight
  • Run 1.5 miles in 20 min: 44 seconds

Court Detention Technicians are non-sworn personnel who perform a variety of law enforcement support duties in a municipal corrections environment. Duties of this position may include processing (booking) prisoners, assisting with court and building security, monitoring security for prisoners in the jail and at bond calls, preparing prisoners for transfers to other correctional facilities, providing support for sworn personnel and assisting in related or assigned duties as necessary. The Court Detention Technician communicates with and maintains positive working relationships with all other bureaus and divisions within the Police Department, and may testify in court proceedings as needed.

The position requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. It requires the ability to work on a continuous shift basis. Experience in a correctional environment and bilingual, Spanish, is highly desirable.

Must successfully pass requirements including but not limited to a written exam, physical agility test, polygraph, psychological evaluation, background investigation, interview, and pre-employment drug screen and physical.

Starting hourly wage is $34.38 with excellent benefits
