National Emergency Management Awareness Month

National Emergency Management Awareness Month, August.

August is National Emergency Management Awareness Month

Emergency Management rarely makes headlines—but it makes a difference every day.

This August, we’re proud to recognize National Emergency Management Awareness Month, honoring the professionals who work behind the scenes to keep our communities safe before, during, and after disasters.

While their work may not always be visible, emergency managers are responsible for:

  • Planning for hazards long before they occur
  • Assessing risks and mapping vulnerabilities across the community
  • Coordinating local, regional, and federal resources
  • Building public-private partnerships that strengthen disaster response
  • Training personnel and the public on emergency readiness
  • Managing Emergency Operations Centers (EOCS) during large-scale incidents
  • Delivering accurate, timely information to the public during crises
  • Guiding long-term recovery efforts after the immediate danger has passed

Emergency Management is about turning strategy into action—and that action saves lives, preserves infrastructure, and shortens recovery timelines.

Help us spread awareness this month by learning more, getting prepared, and recognizing the vital role of your local Emergency Management team.
