Investigations Division

The Aurora Police Department's Investigations Division is comprised of the General Investigations Unit, the Domestic Violence Reduction Unit, the Evidence Unit, and the School Resource Officer Unit.

Every investigation must first begin with an initial police report. This report can completed by calling an officer to your home if you are an Aurora resident or by simply coming in to the front desk of APD.

The General Investigations Unit is broken up into four areas of specialty with detectives assigned to each area:

  • Person Crimes: These are crimes against the person, such as murder, robbery, battery, sexual assault, and missing persons.
  • Property Crimes: These are crimes that affect one’s property (and not their “person”), such as residential burglary, business burglary, vehicle burglary, criminal damage to property, criminal defacement, theft, and retail theft.
  • Juvenile Crimes: These are crimes committed against or by youth or juveniles.
  • Financial Crimes: These are crimes that neither are against the “person,” nor against physical property. Rather, they include crimes such as fraud, embezzlement, identity theft, forgery, bribery, deceptive practices, and financial scams.
