Aurora, Illinois – The Aurora Police Department conducted increased patrols and enforcement details during the St. Patrick’s Day period, focusing on identifying and stopping impaired drivers, enforcing seat belt compliance, and ensuring roadway safety. The proactive detail aimed to deter dangerous driving behaviors and reduce the risk of crashes during the holiday.

During the enforcement period, officers conducted 62 traffic stops, resulting in 73 citations and 2 warnings. Citations included 46 for occupant protection violations, 3 for distracted driving, 1 for speeding, and 23 for other traffic-related offenses. Officers also made 6 arrests for driving with a suspended, revoked, or no valid driver’s license.

“We’re encouraged to see responsible decisions being made during the holiday,” said Matt Thomas. “Our goal is always to keep our community safe, and efforts like this help reinforce the importance of making safe choices behind the wheel.”

The Aurora Police Department joined forces with state and local law enforcement and highway safety partners in the St. Patrick’s Day enforcement campaign.

The safety effort was funded by federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation.
