Aurora Police Department Launches Holiday Traffic Safety Campaign Targeting Impaired and Dangerous Driving
Aurora, Illinois – The Aurora Police Department announced the start of its holiday traffic safety campaign today, focused on reducing impaired driving and other hazardous behaviors, such as distracted driving and failure to use seat belts. With impactful slogans like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “If You Feel Different, You Drive Different,” “Drive High Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket,” this high-visibility enforcement initiative will run from Dec. 12 through the early morning hours of Jan. 5, 2026, encompassing the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period.
“Celebrations are an important part of the holiday season, but safety behind the wheel must remain a top priority,” said Aurora Police Chief Matt Thomas. “Our goal is to ensure everyone can enjoy the holidays safely. Drivers should expect strict enforcement of all traffic laws on Aurora roads during this campaign.”
The Aurora Police Department is partnering with the Illinois State Police and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to support this statewide effort.
In addition to targeting impaired drivers, the campaign highlights the "Click It or Ticket" initiative, emphasizing the importance of wearing seat belts. Buckling up remains the single most effective way to protect yourself in a crash. Whether driving a short distance or across the state, ensure all passengers are properly restrained.
This holiday season, plan ahead to ensure safety. Designate a sober driver, use public transportation, or arrange for a ride-sharing service if you plan to drink. Do not let friends or family members drive drunk, high, or impaired by drugs. Even small amounts of alcohol or drugs can impact judgment and reaction times, making driving unsafe.
The Illinois “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “If You Feel Different, You Drive Different,” “Drive High Get a DUI,” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns are administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
