Aurora, IL – The Aurora Police Department conducted a targeted traffic safety campaign over the Labor Day holiday weekend to promote safer driving habits and reduce crashes, injuries, and fatalities caused by dangerous driving behaviors.

During the enforcement period, Aurora Police officers conducted 138 traffic stops and issued a total of 145 citations:

✅ Seat belt violations: 79
✅ Child safety seat violations: 7
✅ Speeding: 14
✅ Distracted driving: 8
✅ Other moving and equipment violations: 26

Officers also made 11 traffic arrests and 2 criminal arrests. No DUI arrests were made during the campaign.

“This campaign wasn’t about writing the most tickets — it was about keeping people safe,” said Aurora Police Chief Matt Thomas. “Every stop was an opportunity to reinforce the importance of making responsible choices behind the wheel. Dangerous driving puts everyone on the road at risk.”

The campaign was part of a coordinated statewide effort to reduce traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.

This enforcement was made possible through federal highway safety funds administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which emphasizes the real-life consequences of unsafe driving behaviors.
